FG to Launch National Housing Data Centre

The Federal Government has announced that the National Housing Data Centre (NHDC) will be fully operational by December 2025. Led by the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, this initiative aims to revolutionise Nigeria’s housing and real estate sector by providing credible, evidence-based data to guide policy, investment, and development decisions.

The NHDC will serve as a federated system, allowing states, ministries, departments, agencies, and private developers to feed housing data regularly into a centralised national platform. This ensures that both local and national trends are tracked, helping the government identify housing gaps, affordability patterns, and emerging urban development needs.

“The NHDC will be a federated system with inputs from states, MDAs, and private developers at defined frequencies, in line with global standards.” — Dr. Taofeeq Olatinwo, Chairman, Technical Committee of the NHDP

How Nigerians Can Benefit

  1. Access to Reliable Housing Data: Citizens, investors, researchers, and policymakers will have public access to housing information, helping them make informed decisions.
  1. Investment Opportunities: Developers and investors can identify underserved areas, high-demand housing types, and emerging urban trends, reducing investment risks.
  1. Improved Policy and Affordability: With accurate data, the government can design effective housing policies, reduce deficits, and provide affordable housing schemes targeting real needs.
  1. Job Creation and Industry Growth: The NHDC is expected to generate opportunities in data management, urban planning, construction, and real estate consultancy, driving employment and entrepreneurship.
  1. Enhanced Transparency: The open-data platform will allow Nigerians to monitor housing development progress, ensuring accountability and encouraging public-private partnerships.

The NHDC is more than a data repository — it’s a tool for empowerment, planning, and sustainable growth in Nigeria’s housing sector. By using the platform, Nigerians can make smarter housing decisions, investors can unlock profitable opportunities, and the government can deliver better services. This initiative marks a new era of transparency, collaboration, and innovation in the country’s housing landscape.
