BOI donates 30-room hostel to support medical students at UNIZIK Teaching Hospital, Nnewi
UNIZIK Gate
The Bank of Industry (BOI) has officially handed over a newly completed 30-room hostel block for medical students at the College of Health Sciences, Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), located inside the **Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH), Nnewi campus in Anambra State.
The facility was received by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Stanley Anyaehie, on behalf of the university.
Why this matters to students and communities
Medical training involves long hours, emergency duties and night calls. Having safe and nearby accommodation helps students stay focused, reduces transport stress and improves personal safety.
According to BOI, the hostel will directly improve learning conditions for medical students and strengthen healthcare delivery for communities that depend on NAUTH.
“Adequate accommodation is not a convenience but a necessary condition for effective learning and patient care,” the BOI Managing Director, Dr. Olasupo Olusi, said.
How this benefits you directly
This project means:
more on-campus accommodation for medical students,
reduced cost of private housing around Nnewi,
better learning environment for future doctors,
stronger healthcare services for families in Anambra and nearby states.
For parents and guardians, it also means students can stay closer to training facilities in a more secure environment.
How to be part of it
If you are:
a medical student of UNIZIK posted to the NAUTH Nnewi campus, or
a newly admitted medical trainee,
you can apply for a room through:
the UNIZIK College of Health Sciences student affairs unit, or
the NAUTH student accommodation and welfare office.
Students are advised to follow official notices from the university and teaching hospital, submit their accommodation request forms early, and confirm eligibility based on level and posting to the Nnewi campus.
Prospective students who plan to study medicine at UNIZIK can also consider this facility as part of their campus support system when choosing the school.
The new BOI-funded hostel is an investment in people, not just buildings. By improving where medical students live, Nigeria is strengthening how future doctors are trained and how communities receive care.
