NABTEB to Introduce Computer-Based Exams by 2026
National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB)
The National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) is set to introduce computer-based examinations by 2026 as part of efforts to modernize its examination processes and enhance credibility. This announcement was made by the newly appointed Registrar/Chief Executive Officer, Mohammed-Aminu Mohammed, during his resumption speech at the NABTEB headquarters in Benin.
Transition to Computer-Based Examinations
Mohammed-Aminu Mohammed emphasized that digitizing NABTEB’s examination processes would improve the conduct of exams by ensuring efficiency, integrity, and credibility. He noted that the introduction of computer-based testing (CBT) would help reduce human errors, speed up result processing, and enhance the value of NABTEB certificates.
To achieve this, NABTEB will implement advanced security measures, including:
Biometric verification to prevent impersonation.
Encrypted question papers to secure exam content.
Real-time monitoring systems to track examination processes and prevent malpractice.
Commitment to Staff Welfare and Capacity Building
Beyond examination reforms, the NABTEB boss promised to prioritize staff welfare and create a conducive work environment. He assured employees of fair promotions and rewards for hard work, noting that well-motivated staff are essential for achieving NABTEB’s goals.
Additionally, he pledged to seek available grants for technical and vocational education to improve the board’s operations and ensure more Nigerians benefit from skills development.
Alignment with the Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda
Mohammed-Aminu Mohammed reiterated that his leadership would align NABTEB’s policies with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which underscores the importance of technical education in national development.
“As the Registrar of NABTEB, I am committed to aligning our efforts with this vision, ensuring that our programmes and initiatives contribute to the realization of this noble goal,” he stated.
The credibility, integrity, and efficiency of our examination processes constitute the bedrock of our existence as an examination body. Any compromise in these areas undermines our fundamental purpose and threatens the value of the certificates we issue.” – Mohammed-Aminu Mohammed, NABTEB Registrar/CEO
Support and Optimism from NABTEB Officials
Welcoming the new Registrar, the Director of Special Duties, Olugbenga Ojogbede, described Mohammed-Aminu Mohammed’s appointment as timely. He expressed confidence in his leadership, stating that his experience and vision would drive NABTEB to greater heights.
Ojogbede noted that the board looked forward to a future where NABTEB fosters a fair and credible examination system, ensuring that technical and vocational education continues to thrive in Nigeria.
The introduction of computer-based examinations by NABTEB marks a significant step toward improving technical education in Nigeria. With enhanced security measures, digitized exam processes, and a focus on staff welfare, the initiative is expected to benefit both students and professionals. As the board works toward these goals, Nigerians can anticipate a more transparent, efficient, and globally competitive technical education system.
