INEC Extends Voter Registration to July 24, Launches Online Self-Service Portal for Nigerians
Inec Chairman, Josiah Amupitan
For eligible Nigerians who have not yet registered to vote, there is now more time and a more convenient way to complete the process. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise by two weeks and introduced a new online self-service registration portal.
These changes are aimed at helping more citizens register ahead of the 2027 general elections while making the process faster and more accessible.
INEC Extends Voter Registration Deadline
The Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, which was previously scheduled to end on July 10, 2026, will now continue until Friday, July 24, 2026.
According to INEC, the extension followed feedback from state offices, political parties, civil society organisations, and other stakeholders who requested additional time for eligible Nigerians to register.
The extension provides another opportunity for:
First-time voters.
Citizens who recently turned 18.
Nigerians who need to transfer their voting location.
Voters who need to update or replace lost or damaged voter records.

New Online Self-Service Registration Portal
One of the biggest improvements announced by INEC is the introduction of an online self-service voter registration portal.
The platform allows eligible Nigerians to begin and complete much of the registration process using their personal devices, reducing the need for repeated visits to registration centres.
INEC said the portal includes:
Secure identity verification.
Biometric validation.
Backend integrity checks to protect the credibility of Nigeria’s voter register.
Step-by-step instructions to guide users through the registration process.

Why This Matters to Nigerians
Registering to vote is one of the simplest ways citizens can participate in shaping Nigeria’s future.
Whether you are voting for local government leaders, governors, lawmakers or the President, your Permanent Voter Card (PVC) gives you the opportunity to make your voice count.
The extension also benefits people who were previously unable to register because of work, school, travel, or long queues at registration centres.
“The extension underscores the Commission’s commitment to ensuring that every eligible Nigerian has a fair and reasonable opportunity to be included in the Register of Voters.” — INEC
The extension of the INEC voter registration exercise until July 24, 2026, together with the launch of the online self-service registration portal, gives millions of eligible Nigerians another opportunity to prepare for future elections.
If you are yet to register or need to update your voter information, this is the right time to act. Register early, verify your details, and encourage your family and friends who are eligible to do the same. Active participation begins with being registered to vote.
