FG Introduces 0% Interest Loan Scheme for Tertiary Institution Workers

The Federal Government has launched the Tertiary Institutions Staff Support Fund (TISSF) — a groundbreaking welfare and empowerment initiative designed to improve the financial stability, career development, and overall well-being of staff in Nigeria’s tertiary institutions. 

Announcing the scheme on Friday, Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, described TISSF as “a strategic empowerment platform designed to give our academic and non-academic staff the financial stability they need to serve our students with renewed dedication, and to live with dignity and pride.” 

The initiative is part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Reform Agenda for Education, implemented by the Federal Ministry of Education in collaboration with Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) and the Bank of Industry. 

What Makes TISSF Unique 

0% Interest Rate – No interest will be charged on the loan. 

Loan Amount – Access up to ₦10 million (capped at 33.3% of your gross annual salary). 

Repayment Period – 5 years to repay. 

12-Month Moratorium – No repayment required in the first year. 

Areas Covered by the Loan 

Medical Support – For surgeries, emergency care, and essential medication. 

Family & Accommodation Support – For rent, home ownership, or renovations. 

Transportation – Vehicle purchase (including electric vehicles), motorcycles, tricycles, or CNG conversions. 

Small-Scale Enterprise & Agriculture – Poultry, fish farming, crop farming, and agro-processing. 

Academic Advancement – Professional certifications, degrees, and capacity-building programmes. 

Who is Eligible? 

Confirmed full-time academic or non-academic staff of: 

Any federal university, polytechnic, or college of education. 

One state university, polytechnic, and college of education in each state. 

At least 5 years remaining until retirement. 

Membership of relevant staff associations (e.g., ASUU, SSANU, NASU).

Prepare and upload all required documents (employment letter, proof of association membership, salary details, etc.).
