NNPC & FIRST E&P Equip 180 Schools with Digital Tools to Boost Learning

In a move to strengthen digital education in the Niger Delta, NNPC Limited and FIRST Exploration & Petroleum Development Company (FIRST E&P), in partnership with the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), have trained 180 teachers and donated 200 K-YAN digital devices to 180 schools across six oil-producing states.

The training workshop, held at the NCDMB Complex in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, covered schools in Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Delta, Abia, and Imo States. Each school received two K-YAN all-in-one teaching tools alongside solar power kits to ensure uninterrupted usage.

What is the K-YAN Device?

The K-YAN device is a multimedia digital tool loaded with educational content from primary to senior secondary school levels (Years 1–12). It enables teachers to deliver interactive lessons, especially in STEM subjects, making learning more practical and engaging for students.

This initiative follows the successful first phase of the programme in 2023, during which 100 devices were distributed to schools.

“This initiative is not just about giving schools devices — it’s about building the future. By empowering teachers with digital tools, we’re creating classrooms where learning is interactive, inclusive, and impactful.” — Nkem Aghadiuno, Nigerian Content Officer, FIRST E&P

Supporting Education Through Technology

According to Emmanuel Etomi, Executive Director of Corporate Services at FIRST E&P (represented by Nkem Aghadiuno),

“This programme is about equipping today’s students – our future leaders – with the tools they need to compete in a rapidly evolving world. By integrating K-YAN technology into classrooms, we’re improving learning outcomes and bringing education to life.”

The initiative aligns with NCDMB’s goal of building human capital for Nigeria’s energy sector. Mr Timbiri Augustine, NCDMB’s GM of Capacity Building, praised the programme’s focus on STEM and its impact on long-term sectoral growth.

How to Benefit from This Programme

Schools in the Niger Delta region can benefit from future editions of this programme by:

Liaising with Local Education Authorities: Ensure your school is known to local government and community leaders involved in oil and gas host community development.

Demonstrating Need and Readiness: Schools must show a commitment to digital learning and readiness to utilize the tools effectively.

Staying Informed: Follow announcements from NNPC, FIRST E&P, and NCDMB through their websites and local media.

The NNPC/FIRST E&P digital education initiative is a powerful example of how public-private partnerships can transform education in underserved communities. By equipping teachers and schools with technology, the programme ensures a brighter, smarter future for students across the Niger Delta.
