Adeyemi University VC Urges Swift Release of NELFund Loans for 995 Students
The Acting Vice Chancellor of Adeyemi Federal University of Education, Ondo, Prof. Samuel Akintunde, has called on the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFund) to urgently disburse loans to students who have applied. According to him, 995 students of the institution are yet to receive the approved loan funds, totaling ₦68,316,200.
Prof. Akintunde made this appeal during a press briefing on Monday ahead of the university’s 35th convocation ceremony. He stressed that the expected sum does not include the ₦20,000 monthly stipends promised to students under the student loan scheme.
“NELFund is not automatic. If a student doesn’t apply, they won’t get it. The amount we’re expecting is strictly for those who applied,” Akintunde explained.
How to Benefit from the Student Loan Scheme
Students must understand that the NELFund loan is not issued by default. To benefit:
Apply through the approved portal: Students should visit www.nelf.gov.ng or consult their institution’s student affairs office for guidance on the loan application.
Provide accurate documentation: Ensure your academic and personal information is correctly filled out.
Meet the eligibility criteria: Only students who fulfill the academic and financial requirements will be considered.
This financial support covers tuition and additional monthly stipends. Once approved, the funds are disbursed directly to the school on behalf of the student.
“Education should never be hindered by lack of funds. That’s why we’re urging NELFund to fulfil its promise to our students who followed due process and are now waiting to access their future.” — Prof. Samuel Akintunde, Acting Vice Chancellor, Adeyemi Federal University of Education.
Convocation Ceremony to Honour 18,825 Graduates and Oluremi Tinubu
The university is also set to graduate 18,825 students in its upcoming 35th convocation ceremony. The breakdown includes 6,269 NCE graduates, 11,501-degree students, and 1,055 from part-time programmes.
Additionally, the institution will honor the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu—an alumnus of the university—with an honorary doctorate degree. She is recognized for her role in transitioning the institution from a college to a federal university.
The delay in loan disbursement highlights the need for students to take proactive steps to access educational support. As the convocation celebrates academic success, it also serves as a reminder that funding opportunities are available—but only for those who apply.
