Elumelu Family Supports Orphanages, Calls for Aid to Underprivileged Children

The wife of United Bank for Africa (UBA) Chairman, Dr. Awele Elumelu, has urged Nigerians to support underprivileged children, emphasizing their dire need for assistance. Dr. Awele, who also serves as the Chairperson of Avon Healthcare Limited, highlighted the importance of continuous contributions to improve the care and development of these children.

Speaking in Lagos, the Elumelu family donated food items such as rice, beans, milk, sugar, and noodles to three orphanages: Hearts of Gold Children Hospice in Surulere, Open Arms of Mercy Orphanage Home in Okota, and Atunda-Olu Home in Surulere. This act of kindness follows Tony Elumelu’s recent donation of 1,800 bags of rice to families in Onicha-Uku, Delta State, during the festive season.

Helping Should Be Ongoing

At the donation event, Dr. Awele stressed the importance of sustained assistance for the less privileged. She said: “This is nothing new. We know children everywhere need help. It’s amazing what the founder of Heart of Gold is doing here. Helping others shouldn’t be a question of why today or why tomorrow — it must be ongoing. She encouraged everyone to contribute, whether through cash, kindness, or time, to make a difference in the lives of these children.

Impactful Contributions and Gratitude

The founder of Hearts of Gold Children Hospice, Mrs. Lajade Doyin, expressed her gratitude, stating, “In the history of our hospice, this has never happened. The magnitude of foodstuffs donated for my children is incredible. Food is life, and having food today in Nigeria means having everything. Additionally, UBA’s Group Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications, Alero Ladipo, revealed that a survey was conducted before the donations to ensure the needs of the homes were met. The contributions included beverages, rice, medical supplies, noodles, and financial donations of ₦10 million each to 10 orphanages.

Helping others shouldn’t be a question of why today or why tomorrow—it must be ongoing. Everyone can help in their own little way.” — Dr. Awele Elumelu

The Elumelu family’s generosity serves as a reminder of the impact collective efforts can have on underprivileged children. Nigerians are encouraged to follow this example by extending support to those in need. As Dr. Awele said, “Everyone can help in their own little way. By contributing time, resources, or finances, we can all play a part in building a brighter future for these children.
