Kaduna to Recruit 1,800 Health Workers to Improve Primary Healthcare

Governor Uba Sani

The Kaduna State Government has announced plans to recruit 1,800 health workers to strengthen healthcare delivery across all Primary Health Care (PHC) facilities in the state. This initiative, approved by Governor Uba Sani, aims to address staffing shortages and improve access to quality healthcare for residents.

According to the Commissioner for Health, Umma Ahmad, the recruitment drive is part of a broader strategy to make Kaduna a leader in Primary Health Care services. The move will help bridge human resource gaps in healthcare facilities, reduce maternal and child mortality rates, and improve overall health outcomes.

Ongoing Upgrades in Healthcare Facilities

As part of the government’s healthcare reform, 255 PHC facilities across Kaduna State are undergoing revitalization. These facilities will be remodeled and upgraded to Level 2 status, meaning they will be equipped to handle:

Uncomplicated diabetes and hypertension cases

Resuscitation for severe asthma

Safe childbirth and maternal care

Other essential healthcare services

In addition to structural upgrades, the government is also providing modern medical equipment and ensuring a steady supply of essential drugs across the state.

Healthcare as a Fundamental Right

The Commissioner emphasized that under Governor Sani’s administration, quality healthcare is not a privilege but a fundamental human right. Since assuming office on May 29, 2023, the governor has made healthcare a priority, earning his administration 10 national and international awards. These include the Excellence Award from the International Supply Chain Education Alliance (ISCEA) for outstanding contributions to the health sector.

Kaduna State has also been recognized as the best-performing state in Primary Health Care in the Northwest zone, a title awarded through the PHC Leadership Challenge.

Quality healthcare is not a privilege but a fundamental right and investing in it strengthens the foundation of a healthier society.”

How This Benefits Kaduna Residents

Improved Healthcare Access – More healthcare workers mean shorter wait times and better medical attention for residents.

Reduced Maternal and Child Mortality – Upgraded facilities will ensure safer deliveries and better maternal care.

Better Disease Management – Enhanced PHCs will offer treatment for conditions like hypertension, diabetes, and asthma.

Governor Uba Sani’s administration is taking significant steps to transform healthcare in Kaduna State. The recruitment of 1,800 health workers, along with facility upgrades, will ensure that quality healthcare is accessible to all. This initiative serves as a model for other states, proving that good governance can lead to a healthier and stronger society.
