Ogun State Offers Free HIV Treatment for Over 30,000 Residents: How to Access the Programme

Ogun State Government has announced that more than 30,000 residents living with HIV are currently benefiting from free HIV treatment in Ogun State, including antiretroviral therapy (ART), counselling, and support services.
Governor Dapo Abiodun made this known during the inauguration of the new Pharma-Grade Warehouse of the Ogun State Drugs and Health Commodities Management Agency in Abeokuta. He said the state has strengthened healthcare services to ensure residents have access to quality diagnosis, treatment, and preventive care.
According to the governor, the state has expanded HIV testing services and prevention programmes while working to reduce new infections across communities.
“Today, more than 30,000 residents of Ogun State living with HIV are receiving free antiretroviral therapy, counselling, and support services,” Governor Abiodun said.
How Residents Can Benefit from the Free HIV Treatment Programme
Residents who wish to access the programme can follow these steps:
1. Visit a Government-Approved Health Facility
Go to any public health facility or HIV treatment centre in Ogun State for screening and consultation.
2. Take an HIV Test
Individuals can undergo confidential HIV testing and counselling services provided by trained healthcare professionals.
3. Enrol for Treatment
Those who test positive will be enrolled in the free antiretroviral therapy programme and receive guidance on treatment options.
4. Attend Regular Follow-Up Appointments
Patients are encouraged to attend scheduled appointments to receive medications, counselling, and health monitoring services.
5. Access Additional Support Services
Beneficiaries can also receive counselling, health education, and referrals for related healthcare services.
New Warehouse to Improve Healthcare Delivery
The newly commissioned warehouse is expected to improve the distribution of medicines, vaccines, test kits, and other health commodities across Ogun State’s 20 local government areas.
Governor Abiodun also reaffirmed the state’s commitment to eliminating mother-to-child transmission of HIV and strengthening efforts to combat tuberculosis and malaria.
